I can’t be the only one who thought about this...
The BMW i8 seems like a better successor to the original NSX than the current one. Light, efficient, low-cost wonderful to drive, deceptively fast for what it is, with beautiful design and no need to brag about horsepower to prove it’s a driver’s car.
It’s weird that the i8 went from rumor to idea to concept to production car in the time that Honda went from design concept to drivetrain concept.

I thought the new NSX was actually just a better i8. I don’t believe there is a direct successor to the original NSX

I was gonna say, but you beat me to in concept: the i8 went from shower thought to production car that I've seen in person faster than the NSX went from one concept to another.

I wouldn’t even call the new NSX a better i8. It lacks a lot of the cool chassis tech the i8 has. Literally the only advantage the NSX has is more power and AWD torque vectoring.

Which removes all steering feel according to Motor Trend.

I have always thought that the i8 was just a prettier less powerful version of the new NSX
